REALLY? REALLY?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

are they kidding me?!

i feel like someone is pulling my leg. some one is pulling my leg right? why is every band producers now, i should've known that the world of noise/synths/sampling would blur so easily to bands just becoming producers. but even with that it seems like seeing them live will be fun and not to miss (without missing francois virot though)

grrr wish i knew html code you can find the song through this link (orange shirt)

this song kind of hits me and i can't help but like it in all of it's cheesiness like a bootleg the DREAM

i think they're playing at the Northside festival unless there is another brooklyn Discovery. a lil weary cuz i haven't seen an official blog state it.

White Williams vs (The) Fakers

so i've just been kind of worried lately. i know everybody is abandoning their more accessible sounds for weirdo loops and samples and god knows whatelse these kids use and the noiseier groups are abandoning the noise for accessibility. but yeah anyways i'm really worried that if White Williams makes a new album that maybe it will fall more towards the lines of his work with the fakers. or if not that, that maybe fakers is just his new project. that's why i really wanted to go to that bell house show, to maybe get a preview. i wonder?

this song makes me wanna be a better person

Mon francais Avey Tare

Francois virot is quickly rising to be my favourite artist of the moment. actually i think it's very safe to say that he is. first time i heard him was awhile ago, i was getting songs from his album tout gache tout perdu ( all spoilt all lost... if my rusty french serves me right). my friend, who i think released a 7" of his, sent me links of Say fiesta and Casscade Kisses. i would listen those songs non stop on my ipod. unfortunately my ipod broke and i lost the songs and his name (i couldn't remember his last name for the life of me) so it was hard to find him again. but recently i've been following the scheduling of the Northside festival since i bought a badge and i found out that Francois Virot is opening for a show at union pool the first night! how excited i was to see that name and that i automatically recognize it. since then i've been devouring all songs i could find and listening to them on repeat. as before, Say fiesta and Casscade Kisses are reigning over my ipod (sleeker version now).

it's hard not to mention animal collective when listening to his stuff, i'm not one to compare artists to artists, but this time it's kind of hard since animal collective are my current fly by night "favourite" group. but the styling of alot of his songs especially tout gache tout perdu can really make you think of campfire songs, even some of those avey and kria songs, and sung tongs particularly winters love . but don't think of it as a copy cat. i think rather it was more of a zeitgeist sort of thing cuz i think both releases were around that same error (don't quote me). but where animal collective left off with their "freak folk" francois stuck too it evolving it to a fresher, crisper, and more joyous album in Yes or No. he's definitely his own artist with his own voice and it's even clearer in this album, i love it so much!

completely contemplating of pretending that this is an official blog and asking him for an interview for "what cute girls listen to" even though i'd be the only one reading it. just feel like their should be more on him especially in the US, and i wouldn't mind being the first to start it.

he's playing the following date(s) over here:
Thursday June 11 @ Union Pool w/ sharon van etten and others
(gotta find someone that i can text so i can see what time he's about to begin when i'm over at spike hill to see discovery and himalaya, may not be worth the trouble though if i miss the UP show)
Saturday June 13 @ house show "somewhere" really hoping that's somewhere in the tristate area

Bitte Orca

did you know that NPR is currently streaming Dirty Projectors new album: Bitte Orca?
for a week till it's released. that's pretty amazing! i'm listen to my second round of the album, i'm not gonna say anything cuz i've only listented to it twice, and i know none of the nuiances and finer details have settled in my conscious yet. But i have really high hopes for this album on first listen. as i said to my friend when asking what i think of it

"it's really beautiful and delicate and intricate, it's like a light pastry that melts in your mouth with a subtle hint of amazing taste that doesn't overwhelm you while walking on a summer day with a light breeze just when your mind was slightly begining to think that the sun was beating a lil too hard on your back, but the breeze comes before you actually notice. in other words upon two listens
it's pretty perfect so far."
and as she replied:
"gahhh i wish you cut all that imagery crap in the beginning. i actually hate
when ppl review albums and they put all that fluff in it. "
!!! but it's trully what it makes me feel when i listen to it. kind of funny how ppl want reviews but don't like you to relate it to things. but how else can you explain something new, but by associating it with things you already know. i say imagery is better than saying, it reminds me of simply red and the guy with the mole on his face done with dirty projectors guys stylistics, maybe not.

WHAT?!

Love is All You Need

last night i went to my old haven MAXWELL'S. i haven't been there in ages! it was my most favourite venue ever since my first concert there. but recently has been forgotten with all the diy spaces in brooklyn... or perhaps my short stint of only going to ragers.
i missed the first band that played, wonder if they were anygood. i'll have to check them out (remember the last time a similar instance happen i found a love in chairlift). but i did catch the second opener Real Estate, they were nice, i know i've seen them before at some todd p show but didn't go to see them and kind of wrote them off (last time i did that was with vivian girls haha. but my first experience just so wasn't my thing i haven't ventured into delving to see what the buzz is all about and if they got better). glad i got to see them intentionally this time cuz i know there are a couple of shows that i'm going to that they're going to be playing at (wavves and northside festival). unfortunately most of their music was kind of lost from my distraction of this dude dancing, not sure dancing as to physical espression, or maybe i'm just so unfamiliar to seeing daning at rock shows perhaps it was. it was definitely interesting to watch and at times awkward. but enough about audience observations back to real estate (hmm maybe the fact that i'm so easily distracted from them is saying somethin) their music was nice and subtle, there were some rocking songs to liven up the set a bit, but i guess for the most part it was pretty forgettable for me, i suppose the stylings just aren't my cup of tea. but they were from jersey! Yeah Jersey!
then was time for love is all. i'm not gonna lie my sudden intrest in love is all is for dual reasons, the better more reasonable of the two was when i sampled thier cd when other music told me to, and i was like oo la la. but before that a lil seed was planted in my head when i saw pictures of a show of theirs and it was just filled with adorable boys, unfortunately i can't find the pictures anymore, which leads me to believe it must've been a totally different groups pictures i saw. going to the show definitely finalized that, cute boy drought! hahaha but no biggie cuz love is all was just a joy to dance to. their songs jump and pop and tell your body to do so as well. you can't help in a live setting to do what you do infront of your mirror in your bedroom while listening to their songs, and maybe more! i like that in the live setting the horns aren't as abbrasive as their studio productions which sometimes make me skipp a song or two cuz i feel like i'm listening to ska, or whatever you call that 90's music that they would always play blips of on The Box, or you can probably still find playing on radio stations in the jersey shore area. the front-woman is a dream to watch perform, just brimming with cuteness. she belted and cried out her lyrics, as if they were her favourite songs too. i was actually able to leave the show sweating a bit, i haven't done that in awhile. those sweaty concerts are always the best concerts! oh yeah just kind of wish i wasn't next to a drunken douche who kept stepping on my foot and not even apologizing, and completely pushing me out of my original spot :( dear duders let's always have fun but let's not get drunk till after the show, or if you do make sure your not a heavy dude next to frail ppl, Thanx! Oh man and i love the bartender! we had a small conversation of how prince never get's old, i forgot your name bartender but thanks for being the only person that talked to me besides the weirdo dancer. ahaha

Glasser: big bang in small adorable package

so friday night not only did i burito it out and buy my wavves ticket, i also set out to go see Glasser at Zebulon.
i had originally set off to go to monster island basement first and Catch BELUGA (i adore beluga), which probably started at 10, but zebulon advertised glasser to start at 10 so i figured i should risk not seeing a local band to see a not local band. i was a bit nerved when i came at 10 and the show didn't start till 11, and worst it wasn't even glasser, glasser didn't play till 12. but even with that i enjoyed both peroformances. the first act was this thick deep psych sounding band. as i chocked down my long island ice tea i enjoyed bobbing my head along. the first song had this crazy catchy riff that girl kept playing it was killing me with goodness. another funny suprise was for the first couple of minutes i was astounded by the cymbal crashing which seemed to be pre recorded till someone actually moved out my way and i was able to see a drum tearing it up on a kit to the far right. OUTSTANDING!
GLASSER. now glasser was just so amazing to watch the girls voice was remarkable very dreamy and haunting which seems to be a very popular style these days which i'm not oppose to. it was a charm to watch them mainly cuz the singer found everthing funny and worth a giggle. she was also full on ready to get serious to coo the audience and cover the room with her lovely voice. once the riffs would begin to play from her accompanied band mate/ guitarist who also seemed charmed by her showmanship. ofcourse the stand out for the show (to me) since i still didn't have the ep yet and only knew two songs were the two songs. Glad was a nice mid song that made me think i was in ancient china via a lovely lil LA chantress. the last was the song that i found myself repeating on my Ipod called Apply, man thats one of the better tribal like songs floating out there these days. they had a pretty spectacular visual projection going too which she named "my video", hahaha kind of reminds me of the cuteness of nite jewel (disclaimer: not comparing them!)

Wish I lived in Colorado

the Pains of Being Pure at Heart
Health
Monotonix
Passion Pit
Harlem Shakes
Woodhands
the Walkmen
Frightened Rabbit
Thunderheist
The Thermals
Deer Tick
Starfucker

this is about half the line up so far for the Monolith festival in Colorado that i wish i could go to, and this half is just the ppl i'm interested in seeing! my god how full it is.
but now to make things worst, NEON INDIAN HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE LINE UP
but really this is probably good news cuz it's hope that they'll be touring soon and hopefully it'll be before this festival meaning a perfect summer season setting (hopefully outside show).
if not hopefully i'll find a good job buy then that gives me vacation

WAVVES, bump it i got my tickets

speaking of Rusty Santos
i've recently been listening to these acoustic cuts made by wavves. which are so eerie and good kind of leans toward the better parts of the wavvves albums that i enjoyed the most.
one really reminds me of rusty santos for some reason (if ppl read this my head would probably be chopped off) and the other obviously kurt cobain (i've never even listened to nirvana before, kind of funny in this day of age you can never pic up an artist album and not only do you know how they sound but you can imagine when others sound like them)
http://www.wvkr.org/2009/02/wavves-wvkr-set/
thanks to the crazy whirlwind of contrversy circling this poor group i'm finding alot of links of crazy footage and gems of music that i was never aware of

so speaking of Wavves, last friday i found out that i'm losing my job after this week (dang life's a crackhead :/) so i immediately just started thinking oh man i really need to start saving. but then was like "Bump it!" and bought a 8 dollar burrito from Chipotle and trotted to mercury lounge to buy my wavves ticket for the Bowery show in july.
i don't know what's up with all the turmoil but i just know from my expericence (2 albums and a show in Feb) that all aspects of wavves is fun to me, short and sweet but definitely makes me diddy bop and shake my head in that weird way that girls tend to do to lo fi punk surf like music.
CAN'T WAIT (if it still happens)!

Wednesday 7/15/09 @ Bowery Ballroom: Wavves, Woods, Real Estate, Popo
