cuz i did, and i must say it was pretty lame. i don't know if it was due to my own fault, or what. but man oh man. somehow it was just a big lame hassle trying to see everyone i brought my 40 dollar badge to see. i'm not sure if it was like this for the whole festival or just for me. but yeah i would get to a show and find out the artist either canceled (FRANCOIS VIROT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH THE HORROR), was a no show (marnie stern) and they wouldn't even let me in with my badge to see majik markers after that crazy trek, it was another brooklyn band with the same name (Discovery), i was just completely retarded and as usual confused excepter for ecstatic sunshine (why do i always do that?), their band members were like two hours late and even though i saw them coming it was like 2:30 in the morning and i had to wake up to go to TILDEN BEACH the next day (Kurt Vile), or no one came to dance at their dance party, with a very empty dance floor as a result (jonothan toubin ny night train). so yeah that was my gist of the northside festival, i would like to say that i remembered the bands that i did see and that i cared, but the festival was mostly made up of obscure local bands so if the ones that you particularly know didn't show up the whole thing was a bust. i felt like i paid 40 dollars to walk around williamsburg in the mist and rain. oh WAIT FRIDAY!!!!!!!!! friday was a decent day
i went to death by audio got some free icecream and saw like three acts, one was with cute guys playing rock n roll, the other i don't remember, and then this girl whom i forget though i've been meaning to see her play. she was decent but i was tired and anticipating the show to come at glasslands (and being sent crazy text messages about how i have awesome taste in music hahaha). for glasslands i went to see that group crap, what's their names, they're part of that ever growing mgmt circle ahhhh Acrylics, they were ok, just remember not exactly what was going on. nothing on stage or coming from it seem to link together or was in context with eachother perhaps it was due to exhaustion. i got to get a free D + T magazine with a feature on grizzly bear. i guess to be fair there was saturday too though it was highly dimmed by the Kurt Vile incident, seeing the new version of the Muggabears (Grooms) was very exciting for me even though i liked the MBs wistful slow reverb style the grooms punk sound was very welcomed as well, then their were Woods, they were ok. it was my second time seeing them, it's hard for me to get excited over this new crop of brooklyn bands, they're just so eh to me. but hey maybe i'll love them in another year. then Blues Control, who i really like, kind of funny though i was telling a kid that they have a very textural and loop noise sound definitely not rock, and like the first two songs they play are crazy guitar riffs, hahaha they changed a bit since the last time i saw them

i mean yeah it seems like everyone "knows" them or atleast there songs, but is there anything else (though that's probably all you really need to know)? whenever i listen to their albums on my ipod i worry that my ear hasn't been kept to the ground (or eyes/monitor) close enough and have completely missed out on them playing a live set somewhere near me. i know nothing about this band except that i love their songs trully and madly. they have a record lable that they run with other really good tropical/ summer like swedes on it (even that's an intimidation to go to if you don't know what you're looking for). and that they've wanted us to BE STILL for like the past two years. and still i am, waiting for the day of news that they are playing somewhere close by (even if they are lip synching) . it's times like these that i wish i knew swedish.

p.s. and speaking of loving tough alliance, did you hear that jens lekman got H1N1 (swine flu!!!!!!!!!!!!!). i just know it he's gonna die before i ever get to see him play live, not to sound calous but my luck of never getting to see him play is just so uncanny.

i feel like someone is pulling my leg. some one is pulling my leg right? why is every band producers now, i should've known that the world of noise/synths/sampling would blur so easily to bands just becoming producers. but even with that it seems like seeing them live will be fun and not to miss (without missing francois virot though)

White Williams vs (The) Fakers

so i've just been kind of worried lately. i know everybody is abandoning their more accessible sounds for weirdo loops and samples and god knows whatelse these kids use and the noiseier groups are abandoning the noise for accessibility. but yeah anyways i'm really worried that if White Williams makes a new album that maybe it will fall more towards the lines of his work with the fakers. or if not that, that maybe fakers is just his new project. that's why i really wanted to go to that bell house show, to maybe get a preview. i wonder?

Francois virot is quickly rising to be my favourite artist of the moment. actually i think it's very safe to say that he is. first time i heard him was awhile ago, i was getting songs from his album tout gache tout perdu ( all spoilt all lost... if my rusty french serves me right). my friend, who i think released a 7" of his, sent me links of Say fiesta and Casscade Kisses. i would listen those songs non stop on my ipod. unfortunately my ipod broke and i lost the songs and his name (i couldn't remember his last name for the life of me) so it was hard to find him again. but recently i've been following the scheduling of the Northside festival since i bought a badge and i found out that Francois Virot is opening for a show at union pool the first night! how excited i was to see that name and that i automatically recognize it. since then i've been devouring all songs i could find and listening to them on repeat. as before, Say fiesta and Casscade Kisses are reigning over my ipod (sleeker version now).

it's hard not to mention animal collective when listening to his stuff, i'm not one to compare artists to artists, but this time it's kind of hard since animal collective are my current fly by night "favourite" group. but the styling of alot of his songs especially tout gache tout perdu can really make you think of campfire songs, even some of those avey and kria songs, and sung tongs particularly winters love . but don't think of it as a copy cat. i think rather it was more of a zeitgeist sort of thing cuz i think both releases were around that same error (don't quote me). but where animal collective left off with their "freak folk" francois stuck too it evolving it to a fresher, crisper, and more joyous album in Yes or No. he's definitely his own artist with his own voice and it's even clearer in this album, i love it so much!

completely contemplating of pretending that this is an official blog and asking him for an interview for "what cute girls listen to" even though i'd be the only one reading it. just feel like their should be more on him especially in the US, and i wouldn't mind being the first to start it.

did you know that NPR is currently streaming Dirty Projectors new album: Bitte Orca?
for a week till it's released. that's pretty amazing! i'm listen to my second round of the album, i'm not gonna say anything cuz i've only listented to it twice, and i know none of the nuiances and finer details have settled in my conscious yet. But i have really high hopes for this album on first listen. as i said to my friend when asking what i think of it

"it's really beautiful and delicate and intricate, it's like a light pastry that melts in your mouth with a subtle hint of amazing taste that doesn't overwhelm you while walking on a summer day with a light breeze just when your mind was slightly begining to think that the sun was beating a lil too hard on your back, but the breeze comes before you actually notice. in other words upon two listens
it's pretty perfect so far."

!!! but it's trully what it makes me feel when i listen to it. kind of funny how ppl want reviews but don't like you to relate it to things. but how else can you explain something new, but by associating it with things you already know. i say imagery is better than saying, it reminds me of simply red and the guy with the mole on his face done with dirty projectors guys stylistics, maybe not.
