Love is All You Need

last night i went to my old haven MAXWELL'S. i haven't been there in ages! it was my most favourite venue ever since my first concert there. but recently has been forgotten with all the diy spaces in brooklyn... or perhaps my short stint of only going to ragers.
i missed the first band that played, wonder if they were anygood. i'll have to check them out (remember the last time a similar instance happen i found a love in chairlift). but i did catch the second opener Real Estate, they were nice, i know i've seen them before at some todd p show but didn't go to see them and kind of wrote them off (last time i did that was with vivian girls haha. but my first experience just so wasn't my thing i haven't ventured into delving to see what the buzz is all about and if they got better). glad i got to see them intentionally this time cuz i know there are a couple of shows that i'm going to that they're going to be playing at (wavves and northside festival). unfortunately most of their music was kind of lost from my distraction of this dude dancing, not sure dancing as to physical espression, or maybe i'm just so unfamiliar to seeing daning at rock shows perhaps it was. it was definitely interesting to watch and at times awkward. but enough about audience observations back to real estate (hmm maybe the fact that i'm so easily distracted from them is saying somethin) their music was nice and subtle, there were some rocking songs to liven up the set a bit, but i guess for the most part it was pretty forgettable for me, i suppose the stylings just aren't my cup of tea. but they were from jersey! Yeah Jersey!
then was time for love is all. i'm not gonna lie my sudden intrest in love is all is for dual reasons, the better more reasonable of the two was when i sampled thier cd when other music told me to, and i was like oo la la. but before that a lil seed was planted in my head when i saw pictures of a show of theirs and it was just filled with adorable boys, unfortunately i can't find the pictures anymore, which leads me to believe it must've been a totally different groups pictures i saw. going to the show definitely finalized that, cute boy drought! hahaha but no biggie cuz love is all was just a joy to dance to. their songs jump and pop and tell your body to do so as well. you can't help in a live setting to do what you do infront of your mirror in your bedroom while listening to their songs, and maybe more! i like that in the live setting the horns aren't as abbrasive as their studio productions which sometimes make me skipp a song or two cuz i feel like i'm listening to ska, or whatever you call that 90's music that they would always play blips of on The Box, or you can probably still find playing on radio stations in the jersey shore area. the front-woman is a dream to watch perform, just brimming with cuteness. she belted and cried out her lyrics, as if they were her favourite songs too. i was actually able to leave the show sweating a bit, i haven't done that in awhile. those sweaty concerts are always the best concerts! oh yeah just kind of wish i wasn't next to a drunken douche who kept stepping on my foot and not even apologizing, and completely pushing me out of my original spot :( dear duders let's always have fun but let's not get drunk till after the show, or if you do make sure your not a heavy dude next to frail ppl, Thanx! Oh man and i love the bartender! we had a small conversation of how prince never get's old, i forgot your name bartender but thanks for being the only person that talked to me besides the weirdo dancer. ahaha

Glasser: big bang in small adorable package

so friday night not only did i burito it out and buy my wavves ticket, i also set out to go see Glasser at Zebulon.
i had originally set off to go to monster island basement first and Catch BELUGA (i adore beluga), which probably started at 10, but zebulon advertised glasser to start at 10 so i figured i should risk not seeing a local band to see a not local band. i was a bit nerved when i came at 10 and the show didn't start till 11, and worst it wasn't even glasser, glasser didn't play till 12. but even with that i enjoyed both peroformances. the first act was this thick deep psych sounding band. as i chocked down my long island ice tea i enjoyed bobbing my head along. the first song had this crazy catchy riff that girl kept playing it was killing me with goodness. another funny suprise was for the first couple of minutes i was astounded by the cymbal crashing which seemed to be pre recorded till someone actually moved out my way and i was able to see a drum tearing it up on a kit to the far right. OUTSTANDING!
GLASSER. now glasser was just so amazing to watch the girls voice was remarkable very dreamy and haunting which seems to be a very popular style these days which i'm not oppose to. it was a charm to watch them mainly cuz the singer found everthing funny and worth a giggle. she was also full on ready to get serious to coo the audience and cover the room with her lovely voice. once the riffs would begin to play from her accompanied band mate/ guitarist who also seemed charmed by her showmanship. ofcourse the stand out for the show (to me) since i still didn't have the ep yet and only knew two songs were the two songs. Glad was a nice mid song that made me think i was in ancient china via a lovely lil LA chantress. the last was the song that i found myself repeating on my Ipod called Apply, man thats one of the better tribal like songs floating out there these days. they had a pretty spectacular visual projection going too which she named "my video", hahaha kind of reminds me of the cuteness of nite jewel (disclaimer: not comparing them!)

Her Space Holiday, i wish i saved my last experience with the knitting factory show

So her space holiday turns out not to be what the cute girls listen to… at all anymore. Apparently only old guys, creepers, nerds (the true sense of the word nerd, there is no good nerd or bad nerd to me, if it’s a good nerd then it’s not a nerd, just a cool kid playing farce), and the frumpy and ugly girls that date them.
Let me just say once again Bell House completely failed me! I got to the show at 9:30, 9:30, and the show was already 2/3’s over I made it just in time to see the second to last band end their last song and say thank you and goodnight. Kind of wanted to kick myself. But I should’ve known the same happened when I went to see White Williams, I got their and he played two hours ago. So note when Bell House says show is at 7:30 show is at 7:30. The place was pretty empty, it wasn’t till HSH started setting up that the fat the ugly, the nerdy and moderately homely started lining the stage. Of course all of this has nothing to do with the actual performance. Her space came on and seemed very cheerful and in high spirits he welcomed us and more volume on the guitars and base and was ready to get down! The whole show was very lively. The double drummers for this go round added a nice effect, I got kind of confused sometimes and was waiting for drum solos when the opportune times seemed to show up. Kind of guess it wasn’t necessary to have two drummers for a ho down vibe of music just started wishing they were Aa instead. Although I’m not a fan of country twang honky tonk indie music I could tel that’s where mark bianchis heart now lied. I loved his old style of music but when he played the oldies last night they fell kind flat and weren’t worth the revisit besides the exception of… what it Japanese gum, that turned out to be a bit of a highlight. He slightly jammed it out and let the computer play letting both worlds collide and having fun with it and then to make it an extra gem he extended the jam in the middle to sneek in a verse from something to do with my hands. This was extremely cute cuz he did it for the only two girls that were moderately cute in front who cried for it, after he took a sip from a cup of one of the girl’s water and gave her a wink. Note to boy/guy bands do flirt with your girl audience; I don’t know why more bands don’t do this? HELLO THEY’RE THERE TO SEE YOU if you show a girl some attention in a dead crowd you can bet she’ll be your personal rebel rouser. And that’s exactly what happened that girl started to get the crowd moving pulling every one around getting in on the ho-down with her. Speaking of ho-downs I kind of realized why I always make sure I’m in the front at shows KIDS CAN’T DANCE! It was truly embarrassing and made me feel so awkward to be in the audience, one dude doing this awkward shuffle with spasms and this other dude doing just full on major spasms, and just seizures across the board! There were like another two kids next to me who I think were noticing the awkwardness and refrained from dancing and just tap their toes I think afraid of looking just as weird. Unfortunately when the oldies hit I couldn’t help but move a lil but Charlie horses quickly ensued so I’m sure I looked just as awkward as the rest but I’m almost certain I had rhythm :/. Speaking of these spasms, they were all being controlled until the highlight of the night began, I nice lil closing jam that included 1234’s and shouts and shambling drum solos and jams that I really loved, but I think I’m also getting confused the second to last song with the last song, where the lil bird like drumer came down to the audience with a tambourine and drum stick in hands and a smile on face to get the crowd clapping and find his (twin?) brother to join, them walking around in the crowd was my highlight
Speaking of these bird like brothers:
LYMBYC SYSTEM!!!

LYMBYC SYSTEM, for cute girls of the future

I just want to say: I HATE YOU BELL HOUSE with your stupid punctual timing. While walking to the venue I was worry myself oh my god it’s 9:30 what if I miss the whole show oh no oh no, no no no way will I miss the show at the very worst I’ll only catch her space holiday. Of course in thinking this I was also thinking no chance in heck that the first band has even stopped playing yet. Upon walking into the bell house I find that the very least is happening, and I make in time to catch the last moment of LYMBYC SYSTEMS lush and beautiful sound. What lil I did catch was truly moving and deep and rhythmic. It’s insane that these two small lil happy cute chipmunk like brothers can produce such a huge sound! From the looks there is no pre sampled sounds that they just cue just two kids engrossed in their instruments with perhaps some looping. I wish there was more I could say about their show, but being that I only caught 2 minutes this is a lot. They were also the only part of the Her Space Holiday show that I was paying attention, I wondered why mark even used the lap top as a backing track to the old songs when he had these two geniuses who probably would’ve made the songs a highlight of the night
Oh wells. I don’t think too many cute girls listen to them, but they should. They make me smile from ear to ear. Definitely caught my self blushing and out of words when trying to buy merch from one at the last show, their next show in new york is in july at union pool. I’M THERE
